Malta to India Travel Guide
Choosing the hub, the gateway city and the season for an India trip from Malta.
Routing from Malta
There is no nonstop, so the first decision is the hub. Gulf carriers via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi generally offer the widest range of Indian arrival cities; Istanbul and the large European hubs are the main alternatives.
Overnight long-haul legs that arrive in the early morning are common. Book the first night's accommodation from the previous day if you land before dawn.
Pick one region per trip
India rewards depth over distance. The north around Delhi covers Mughal history, Rajasthan and the Himalayan foothills. The west through Mumbai reaches Goa and the Konkan coast. The south through Bengaluru and Kochi is greener and slower, with the Kerala backwaters and the tea hills.
Seasons
October to March suits most of the country. The southwest monsoon runs roughly June to September across much of India and is heaviest on the west coast. The far north is a summer destination, when the passes are open and the plains are at their hottest.
Getting around and formalities
Domestic flights are cheap and frequent, and trains remain the best way to cover shorter distances — both are worth booking in advance around festivals. Most visitors need a visa arranged before departure, so start that process early.

When is the monsoon?
Roughly June to September across much of the country, arriving first in the southwest. The exact timing varies by region and by year.
