Best Destinations to Visit from Malta
Realistic trip ideas from MLA, grouped by how far you want to go.
Short-haul city breaks
Malta sits within about three hours of most of Southern and Western Europe, which makes long weekends genuinely practical. Rome, Catania, Barcelona, Paris, Vienna, Munich and London all appear regularly from MLA, with more choice in the summer schedule.
Because the island is small, an early departure and a late return can turn two days off work into a proper trip.
Mediterranean neighbours
Sicily is the closest option of all and works as a very short flight or a ferry crossing. Tunisia, mainland Italy and Greece are all within easy reach for a week away without a long travel day at either end.
Long-haul through a hub
Anything beyond Europe involves a connection. Gulf hubs open up India, Southeast Asia and East Africa; Istanbul is a strong single-connection option for much of Asia; and the large European hubs cover the Americas.
Since the connection is unavoidable, a stopover of a night or two often adds a second destination for little extra fare.
Timing your trip from Malta
Northern Europe is at its best between May and September, which is also when Malta itself is busiest and outbound fares peak. Winter is a good time to head to the Gulf, Southeast Asia or the Canaries, when those destinations are at their most comfortable.
